Cam Install

Hey everyone, I have a question that may sound really stupid to most. But anyways, When doing a cam install my friend insists that you MUST measure all the bearings and what not, it maybe good to do it, but I figure on a cam with 32000 miles and not seeing any reason to do anything of the like. I think it would be a waste of time to do that. You take all the stuff off needed to remove the cam... (intake, opti, water pump, front cover, etc etc...) lube the cam, put in new cam, reinstall all the removed pieces to put it simply. Anyone who can shed insight onto this so I can prove my friend wrong about this, that its not a MUST. Or it is completely stupid to do so for no reason. He is in an automotive class at school and thinks he is like a know-it all. I am getting my LT-1 soon, so I figured i would post this in this spot. Thanks!

Not a must, but maybe a good idea to measure the wear on the bearings. The only way you are going to be able to do that is with micrometers. If bearing wear is out of tolerance, the engine will have to be removed so the cam bearings can be replaced.

Most people that do a cam swap are praying that the cam bearings are still ok and probalby most are. With 32k odds are better that the bearings are good if the engine has been well cared for.
