Cam gear runout and wobble?
Cam gear runout and wobble?
I just received my new custom Comp Cam, and I'm using the GM Performance Parts gearset.
I noticed that the nose of the cam wouldn't quite fit into the hole on the back of the cam gear (maybe if you pounded it, but not easily). I had to slightly sand the inner edge of the cam gear hole for it it fit (stock gear fits the cam fine, so its not the cam).
Now I want to make absolutely sure it runs straight and true, but I can't find blueprinting specs for this.
Currently, the cam gear is off-center by about 0.005" which is better than the stock gear, but at the outer edge of the face it walks back and forth (wobbles, if you will) about 0.015", which seems like a lot.
I have no idea what tolerances are supposed to be, though!
Any direction would be very welcome!
Thanks,
Dave
