Cam Effects?

Ok, check my signature for the cam install.

I drove it today for the first time and I have to say i'm not all that impressed. I lost A CRAPLOAD of load end torque and didn't spin the tires when I pinned it at 3k. I haven't run through the gears but have gotten on it from time to time to see what its got. 3rd gear feels it pulls harder, but not totally sure...

It looked like the mph went up a crapload faster but I can't tell if its in my head or not because of the lack of torque? I dunno, I could be crazy. The car is tuned by Ion @ MadZ28.com so before you ask... :-)

Will the car gain power as it gets broken in? Entire valvetrain was replaced mind you.

Been about 50 miles since it was installed.

Re: Cam Effects?

sounds like you need to take a trip to a dyno or track!

Re: Cam Effects?

Yeah, you might need to nail it around 3500 now. It should run pretty well with that cam, though.

Re: Cam Effects?

might be a smart idea to upgrade the rest of your valve train. springs, retainers, push rods, etc. also look into geting your pcm tuned which could be a very big part of it

Re: Cam Effects?

The entire valvetrain was replaced.

Timing Chain and Gear
Valve Cover Seal
Seals and Gaskets
Cam
Hardened Purshrods
Valve Springs
1.6rr
Comp R Lifters

Then, heads were machined/steam/boiled and new gaskets for them PLUS a new stock oem waterpump.

Re: Cam Effects?

By the way, will the lope/power keep increasing for a short while? Or since its a roller, what it starts at, is what its going to stay at?

I know patience i'll find out, but I want to know now!! L0L

No the lope isn't gonna get any better or power isn't gonna get any better with age unless, you find out you have a problem. If you want more lope you should of got it ground into the cam. If you want more power you should make sure everythings running right and if it is, you should of researched your set up some more.

Re: Cam Effects?

I doubt you installed that cam for the low end torque. Of course it's going
to have less torque down low, what did you expect? It should scream long
after your stock cam shut down though. I would like to know your opinion
of how it drives in rush hour traffic.

Re: Cam Effects?

You left LSA out of your specs. No way to create an informed opinion without that.

Re: Cam Effects?

Funny thing, I don't see Headers or LT4 knock module listed here. Not to mention the LSA ..... rear end ratio, seems like incomplete info.

Re: Cam Effects?

hmmm sorry... :-/

3.42 in the rear, no headers yet.

LT4 Knock module, not totally sure what that really does to be honest.

114LSA, got this to KEEP my low end grunt.

I did research on the cam, this is what I was told to get for best streetability/power.

Re: Cam Effects?

well, you've got to remember your powerband has changed drematically. your low end torque won't start until around 2500rpms, try revving to 4000 and dump it, i think you'll see a huge diff.

my suggestion is dyno it, i suspect it isn't tuned right either. mail order tunes are garbage.

as for the lt4 know module,
your new rockers tend to resonate creating a false knock, on the lt4 cars they had to create a knock module to cut out the frequences caused by the rockers because the computer thought the engine was spark knocking.
by filtering these out your engine will run more advance which creates more power.

a scan tool should help here, see what rpm you get max advance.

later,
mike

114 LSA isn't optimal. 112 would have been much better with that cam. It should still be running pretty decently, though. You tried dropping the hammer at 3500-4000, like suggested before?

Re: Cam Effects?

Who adjusted your valve lash? The Comp Rs don't like much preload, and if you are hanging a valve open you will definitely be down on power.
