Buying a Camero but... Mayonnaise in Filler Cap & Neck.
Re: Buying a Camero but... Mayonnaise in Filler Cap & Neck.
You think yours is bad? Try cracking a cap on the big Dodge ones like on the new Dakotas and the Durangos. It's codensation sludge that occurs when you run the car long enough to warm up, but not completely disperse all the water inside the motor.
I worked at Jiffy lube for four years through high school and college, and thats all it ever was. Don't be afraid of it if it passes a compression test. An oil system cleaner will DEFINETLY knock that sludge out. You just put it in the crankcase, run it for 10 minutes, then change you oil like you normally would. It's worth the $10
I might have it wrong, but that is honestly what I believe. SHort trips in town cause it to pile up and one long trip won't necessarily delete it all.
1) Check compression
2) Run it for an extended period of time
3) Run an oil system cleaner in it to take care of the problem.
4) Find a buddy with the BIG Dodge cap and I GURANTEE YOU that you will at least find a trace if they do any significant amount of city driving including lots of small trips around town..

If he has a blown headgasket, and it is leaking enough to contaminate the oil and leave residue on the underside of the oil cap, then it would most definitely smoke, because the coolant would have to go through the combustion chamber to get to the oil.

Yep, Ive seen in on countless vehicles too. The newer Dodge trucks with the large oil caps always have large amounts of that stuff. Some of them have a plug you can pull out of the inside of the tube that goes into the cylinder head, that is always covered with milkshake. HAve you checked the coolant level? The best way would be to change the oil and see what it looks like and do a compression check.
Re: Buying a Camero but... Mayonnaise in Filler Cap & Neck.
My Z has had milky goob under the cap at every oil change since I bought it in 1998, 80K miles ago. I'm quite certain I haven't driven the last 8 years and 80,000 miles with a bad head gasket. My LT1 caprice with the filler extension is even worse.
If you see it on the dipstick too, it's the head gasket.

Re: Buying a Camero but... Mayonnaise in Filler Cap & Neck.
My LT1 used to get it real bad in the cold weather. I replaced the gasket on top of the TB plate. I tore it up a bit when I installed an airfoil. And cleaned the hose that goes from the passenger side valve cover to the TB, it was clogged up with that milky stuff. 3 oil changes later and I havent seen any signs of that stuff.

i get this buildup in my fill neck and breather tube also . its from the cold and short drives. i have a 5 minute drive to school and back so after a few days i get this. if i drive if on a long trip like an hour or so it makes it go away. i know its not a head gasket because it has never used a drop of coolant
