if you can do all the work from pulling the motor, taking the rotating assembly apart, installing the new rings (bearings to since your in there), putting it all back together, and re installing it in the car

your looking at about 400 to 500 bucks for everything

Depends on where the problem is. Is it coming out the tail pipe, or, does it just smell like oil when you walk around the car? I mean it could either be a internal engine problem, an intake manifold leak (real common), or just leaking from a valve cover. I am not up on prices of each, sorry.

I can smell it when the engine is on from the exhaust and after sitting at a stop light for a minute I start smelling it in the car. My shop teacher said it's rings, but I thought I'd ask you guys too.

Could just be a valve seal. Do you know any history of the car? Did it ever have a supercharger on it? I ask because the rings usually don't go without some help.

I don't think it ever had a supercharger on it but I could be wrong. I really don't know any of the history mechanical wise. I bought this car a week ago.

I just found a possible solution. There is a hose going from the passenger side valve cover to the throttle body. At the valve cover, there seems to be a leak. Would the T.B. be sucking in oil from this hose and burning it to cause my smell/oil loss?

Sounds like the oil is just leaking down onto the exhaust manifold. Wait till it's cool then wipe it off and put the end back in the valve cover if you have to and hope for the best.

Air is supposed to flow from teh TB, through that hose and into the valve cover. It's then supposed to flow through the engine and PCV to be burned in the engine. Excess oil in that tube on the PS could mean a PCV valve that needs to be replaced. Replace it, clean up the oil and see if your problem goes away.

I'll try cleaning it and if that doesn't work, then I'll try replacing it.
