Red face Have I got a story for you!!!

Well, my Sunday was pretty scarry. I'll give you all a little background first. My mom is best friends with my g/f's mom. That how Liz and I know each other.

Liz called me on Sunday an tells me that her parents are going to have a few people over for a bbq and swimming in the pool. I say I'll be over around 4:30. My mom went over there about 3:30. I was out picking up a friends car with the trailer and now its sitting in my driveway. Finally get back to my house and get the car unloaded. i quick jumped in the shower cause I was stinking of gear oil... yeah it was on the trailer because the rear was broke .

I get out of the shower, throw on my bathing suit and shoot over to the g/f's house. My mom, her parents, a few other friends of theirs' and Liz are all in the pool. So I jumped in. e chatted a messed around in the pool for an hour or so. My mom and I were talking about me being on my own now with the new house and all. She asked about what I was making for lunches and what not. Well I got into my thing about not getting to the super market for lunchmeat so I was going to buy lunch today. She says... "why dont you just make some hard boiled eggs for some egg salad... OH MY GOD!!!! I left eggs on the stove!!!!" I'm say "what?" She says "I put eggs on the stove before I left to come over here... I NEVER SHUT THE STOVE OFF!!!".

We jump out off the pool and run to the car. Take off down the street in moms new Grand Prix... I have to admidt. I was impressed with moms driving skills. She took some turns at 50 and didnt even care! We get into my moms neighborhood, and mom is flipping out... she just knows the house is on fire. I tried calming her down. I used to be a firefighter in Cinnaminson. And I know what can happen with that kind of stuff. A lot of houses have burned to the ground for stuff like that, but I couldnt tell her that ya know.

So we come flying down the street and come up to the crest of the road at the house... what do we see? Yeah, the street lined with FIRE TRUCKS!!!! Mom starts to loose it. She locks up the brakes and slides to a halt on the side of the house. We jump out and the fire cheif comes running over. I knew him from working with him in the department years ago. All I could think of was the house I grew up in, and the house my mom loves has just went up in flames. Rich (the fire chief) yell's to me "Brian! dont worry its OK!". There is smoke damage but no fire damage. My Aunt was working for an alarm company last year, and my parents bought one from her, the smoke detector went off and the alarm company called the fire department. Mom didnt even set the alarm, it just always monitors fire and water and what not. Guess what the next "project" is for my house?.... yeah you guessed it.. the same alarm company will be here puting one in to this house!

BTW... Crispy eggs dont smell very good. Mom and Dad are going to have to hire someone to come in and treat the house for smoke damage. The smell is everywhere and its STRONG!!!!! They said the smoke in the house was pretty thick. They (fire dept) had to bring in the smoke ejectors to clear the house. They just picked up the pot and walked it outside so no water or fire extinguishers were used in the house. The good news is that the cats are smart. They ran to the basement and were unharmed... a little scared, but ok. Thank god for that alarm system.... I think it saved the house!

D@m, that was a close one. I did something similar while waiting for the laundry. I put some leftover pizza in the toaster oven to heat up. Then I got distracted and noticed something I needed to return to my parents so I jumped in the car and ran up to their house. I'm sitting there talking to my mom and I suddenly remember about the pizza. Gotta go! luckily I was only about 5 minutes away so I wasn't gone long enough. It's so easy to get distracted and forget things like that. Glad to hear the house wasn't destroyed.

I talked to my mom tonight and she said that the smell is really going away fast. She probably isnt going to have to call someone in for cleaning, she's just going to clean all the curtains and carpets herself and hopefully it will be ok. Maybe repaint the kitchen celing, but thats about all. Yeah I'm glad everyone is ok too. I was so worried about the cats... I'm kinda attached to them .

E, right now house prices are out the roof around here, but You will be able to find something. If you want, give me a call and I'll set you up with my realtor. She's a friend of the family so you wont have to go thru the BS trying to find someone to work with you. Not sure how familliar you are with the process of buying a house, but if you want, I'll be more than happy to have a few beers one night and tell you about it. Then if your intrested I'll hook you up with Claire and find you a house!
