Hey guys, I decided its time to give my 94Z some much needed TLC. The car has been sitting for a couple years outside, so obviously not in the best condition. I start it up, let it idle while i wash it. The car stalls out so i go to try it again only to realize gas is on "E". Tried starting it a couple times then i get this LOUD noise, so i decide no more trys. Took the starter out to realize the nose broke off the dam thing. The engine spins freely i.e. nothing is frozen. Any ideas what caused this before i break another one. TIA

 

My 94 Formy did something close...It was starting fine then all of a sudden POW! started making a loud clunking noise like it was missing teeth so i bought a replacement and it works fine. inspected the old one and didn't see anything wrong just worn. The only thing i think was it was just mis-aligned and just wore the teeth funny, but with yours could something of hit it? kinda weird....sorry for the long off topic response, justed wanted to vent on a crappy starter problem...
