Broken dipstick in oil pan
Broken dipstick in oil pan
The bottom of my oil dipstick is broken off inside the oil pan. I check my oil yesterday and when I pulled the dipstick, it was missing about 1in from the bottom. It looked like it just snapped off. Will the piece just float around in the oil pan or can it get stuck somewhere and block oil passages? I will probably have to pull the oil pan to get it out (I just replaced the gasket 8 months ago!!) Oh well, it will give me a reason the do the opti oil seal.
Pull the dipstick tube out of necessary, you should be able to fish the
peice out if it didn't get lodged somewhere. You don't want that thing to
get into the bearings and tear them up.
I can just see someone put a big magnet on the pan and leave it there,
hoping the chunk just sticks to the bottom until they rebuild it someday.
I had the same thing happen to me from when I bent it around too much when I installed my headers. I've been driving it with it in the pan now for about 40K miles. Maybe I got lucky, but it's been no problem.
