brand new waterpump failed

I found the source of my problem. The shaft seal on my 3 month old w/p is spent. Drenched my brand new opti caiusing it too misfire. Luckily the pump has a 2 yr warrantyand opti is lifetime so i should be back together and tuned by this weekend. Always something with high performance vehicles.

Re: brand new waterpump sh** the bed

The WP seal used to be a problem to get on correctly, but some techniques were invented to deal with installing it without damaging it. I'm sure you can dig up some old threads explaining how it was done.

You will get a pump under warranty but not an opti. Warranty doesn't work that way. sorry to tell you.

The problem isn't that the vehicle is HI-Po. It's that it is 18 years old.

The opti has a limited lifetime warranty. It is also brand new . I spend way too much money at advanced, they already told me they would warrant it no questions asked. Im gonna use black rtv too seal it. Never had a problem with the stuff and i know the engine builder just used the gaskets. Will know more in a couple hours when i can start working on it

Well if you bought an LT1 distributor from Advance you have bigger problems anyway. Good luck.

I think what speedy is saying is that most opti's don't have the longevity of the factory replacements. There's a knock off in my car, and has given me some trouble when it rains, and have had to re-seal it once, but overall I am satisfied. Just hope it don't sh** the bed tomorrow ha.

For me, I bought an AC Delco water pump and AC delco opti. I didn't want to go the remanufactured water pump route. I've had too many remanufactured parts fail on me to want to try it with a water pump.

My waterpump was fine. Coolant temp sensor loosened itself up. I think i may have opti trouble though lol. Im gonna try putting the new injectors in because the old ones may be plugged or have moisture in them. If not i may get a delphi opti. So pissed. I dropped 8k at least in the motor and still doesn't wanna run right

Converting to a vented requires a slew of parts - probably more than what you think.

LTCC still requires a functional optispark, FYI, and is not an opti-replacement. Often times things like the LTCC and the Delteq just further complicate things.

I agree.

I think one of the top items on the list for a vented conversion would be a '95-'97 camshaft with dowel pin. If I remember, the '93s were splined shaft.

Re: brand new waterpump sh** the bed

Im not gonna swap my xfi280 out after a week of running. I just read a how to article on venting a non vented opti. May try this. Depressing too spend this much money and still not have any fun. The car ran great up until my trip too the carwash saturday. Im guessing the opti took a drink through the weepholes during the undercarriage wash. Staying away from there. It seemed too get better after 35 minutes of driving then really started skipping. Changed wires gas tank fuel filter tranny mount today. Gonna try the new injectors tomorrow and if that doesn't work im buying a new opti and parking itbwhen its wet ouside lol

Re: brand new waterpump failed

Aftermarket cams usually have the larger hole in the nose to accomodate the pilot shaft for the vented Opti. Dowel pin can be replaced with the longer one. Problem is the hole in the cam sprocket for the 93/94 splined shaft is not large enough for the vented Opti's pilot shaft. Need a new cam sprocket, and a 95 timing cover with the larger hole for the dowel pin to rotate. Plus a different short electric harness and a complete vent/vacuum harness.
