Brakes are mushy and dont stop very well... at all!

I just got back from a trip to NV.. I guess driving the rental car made me realize when i got back how bad my brakes are.. The pads and rotors were just done about 4 months ago. the front are VGX pads and the stock rotors, the back are just some cheap pepboys pads and stock rotors.. the rotors have been previously cut.. Now any how.. i get back tonight and i was going to visit my GF and on the way some trans am pulls up next to me, blah blah, we messed around and i was doing about 70 or 80 and about 50 yards in front the light turns red.. i tried to stop but i couldnt.. the pedal was to the floor and if i was a bit stronger it would have went through the floor and i would have been doing the flinstone style braking.. what could cause this? old fluid? they are the stock lines.. I duno what it could be. the pedal also reaches the floor fairly easy..

thanks..
Nick

Perhaps the lines were not properly bled when you did your brakes.

Also, install some stainless steel braided lines for peace of mind. The difference in feel and fade is noticeable.

When you push your brakes, do you hear a constant "PSHHHH" sound?

I would definitely bleed the brakes....

You might need to replace the power brake booster.

Is the sound constant though? As in, if you push the pedal down and hold it, does it constantly go PSHHHHHHHHHHHHHH ?
