Borg Warner AFPR
So i bought my bw afpr, not because i needed an adjustable one but because it was at a good price, 52.99! My question is, being its adjustable, is it already set from the factory, or will i have to adjust the screw on top of the fpr? Thanks. Also the reason I did this was because I was having a hard time starting, well I thought for sure it was the fp, but i figured i would simply replace the fpr with it. But i dont have the fp in yet. When i pulled the fpr, there was gas flowing out of it? So my thing is, i dont have it together yet but is it possible my fp is still good if its holding gas to the fpr? Thanks

Was there gas in the small vaccum line going to the fpr? The diaphram can leak and sort of cause a slight flooded condition. The engine would turn over till it would clear and then fire. I had the same problem. You'll need a gauge hooked up to the shrader valve and verify the correct pressure @ start up.

A better investment would have been a fuel pressure gauge. That can be used to determine if the fuel system is contributing to the hard start problem. And you need a fuel pressure gauge to adjust the AFPR to stock pressure since there is no assurance that is is anywhere near that pressure when you take it out of the box.

i guess ill get a f.p gauge. the fuel came from the hose at the bottom of the old fpr when i pulled it out. But also a while ago when i did head gaskets, i had the 2 black plastic lines mixed up on the passenger side of the intake where one connects to the fpr if that helps?

If by "hose at the bottom of the old FPR" you mean the vacuum compensation line, the FPR was damaged if fuel ran out of it.
The black vacuum lines on the passenger side of the intake are for the FPR and the heat/AC controls. It wouldn't affect anything if you switched them.

ok got it all together, runs now, hooked up the fp gauge, got it all adjusted to start at 50psi took a while, runs at about 40psi. when i turn the key to acc, it jumps to 50psi but quickly falls down, what causes this. Im pretty dead set on changing out the fp, i also did the trap door trick, damn that was nice and keeps it simple! Thanks so far for the imput.

also ive already checked for leaky injectors, does this sound like a fp problem? I tried searching why it drops so fast instead of holding pressure nothing that really stood out to me that could help?

If you have fuel coming out the vaccum line then the diaphram is shot. It will bleed pressure very fast. Change it and do it the way Fred says to. It will work and you'll be on your way!

There are 4 things that can cause the pressure to drop.... leaking FPR diaphragm, leaking injectors, leaking fuel lines and faulty check valve in the fuel pump. It would appear you have eliminated the first two.

if the fuel lines were leaking, you should see puddles or at least smell fuel. With the system under pressure, I would think a leak would be easier to detect. How did you confirm the injectors are not leaking? Did you pull the plugs to see if they are wet?

theres definatly no leaking lines anywhere then if it is obvious, and i pulled the fuel rail and turned the ignition on and not one of the injectors dripped out any fuel. thanks for you help so far.
