Blocks to avoid?
Hey all, I'm currently weighing my options on replacing the motor in my '95, are there any castings to avoid, road master, impala, caprice etc? I'm hoping to find a reasonably priced, stockish short block/long block that I will be able to just bolt everything on my current motor to, and just want to avoid problem areas. Any advice, input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Blocks to avoid?
All LT1 blocks are identical, except the Corvette blocks and factory "replacement" blocks. The last two have 4-bolt mains rather than the 2-bolt mains used in all the other cars. An LT1 block will have the numbers 327 on it. That's the last three digits of the casting number.
Avoid what looks like an LT1 block, but has "4.3" cast in it.... that's an L99 265ci block.

Thanks Fred, good to know about the 4.3 casting. I recently lost a wrist pin bearing and am seriously considering doing a stock ground up rebuild on the engine. So....I may be just redoing my own block, still undecided. I might upgrade the cam, (just slightly) but aside from that I'm going to go all stock internally with the exception of LT4 stock ratio rockers, which I already have. Any recommendations on a cam? The car will be driven a bit, so I'd like to stay somewhat conservative. Thanks!
