Re: Biggest Cam on stock Cubes?

I will be doing a cam swap this summer along with heads, and have always wanted a radical idle.
Back to subject as flyin suggested...

This original statement says it all for me as far as the level of performance *cough* sound #771 is looking to achieve.

I'd go with 224/230 @.050 with a 108 lsa.

Mingame makes a good point, racing at those altitudes has to be disapointing to guys who don't get the idea of DA and it's effect on HP.

I have to agree with him on the DCR/SCR thing.... up in the mountians more compression can be used and helps out a ton since the air is always thin.

The other end of all of this "ovary-sensitive" discussion is that you have to realize Steve and Joe are cutting some serious short times. That's not a street car suspension, and usually not a overdrive tranny. Street cars and Drag cars are different animals in terms of short times on the strip.

BTW Alan your cam recomendation is not that far off!

STeves car is the stock tranny with a kit..overdrive and all. I think it actually cut better 60's on the stock bolt on motor actually. His setup considted of shocks, LCAs and relocation brackets..thats it. This car was driven to and from the track and is used for road trips in the state quite often. Not trying to bust your ***** just saying that steves car is a street car...my car..if we were talking about it here..is a drag setup and would be a bitch on the street. But of course its a 6 speed so its a different animal to get to launch all together.

Street car- Definition: what is tolerable to its owner !!!!!!
Because in reality once emissions is shot to hell its technically not legal to drive on any america's highways...but alas inspections can be had albiet the good ole boy system pretty much at will...so I think the definition above says it plain enough ....

topic at hand...how big??? big as you can put in the thing really..question is can it be tuned to perform and be "street car" enough in your mind ... keep lift low enough, you can swing huge dur. and lsa's just about anywhere you prefer....just note 7,000 rpm is the absolute most you would want to take stock rods and even still hovering in that area regular, expect to be tearing it down shortly down the road ....final note: big cams = big tuning ability is a must ...since tuning is ultimately the final peice to any combination , as already said thier is no magic cam or no magic heads ( as far as peak flow wars between porters)..... Its everything working together...

Re: Biggest Cam on stock Cubes?

nicely put,i prefer a cam with long duration 230 min and tight lobes 110,108,as far as lift 480-600 will get the job done for me.on n20 or other forced ind. i will use 112-116 depending on boost levels and type.
