ok i went to a couple of places today and heres what i have found

theres the
Mobil 1 M1-302 seems to be the bigger size from the stock m1-202

then theres a PF-35L which seems to be the bigger one from the STOCK PF25

but theres also the PF-1218? which also seems like it would work as well..

anyone care to comment on this

 

I tried the PF-35L on my 97 and it appeared to be the lowest point on the car so I did not want to use it. Used an STP filter that time. Found a parts house that had a case of the correct AC filter for the LT-1 and bought the whole case. Wont have a problem until I run out. The Mobil -1 filter is a bit on the expensive side. I suppose that if I read a good enough tech article on it that it may be worth it. Thanks

 

I've been running the longer one for years with no problems, My personal choice is the Baldwin B6 filter

 

whats the over all benefits?? i guess just MORE filtration?? also are you guys adding a lil more oil to your engine since the filter is bigger?

 

The 1218 is the replacement for the 35. They probably have not run out of stock yet.

 

I use the Fram HP4 (its in a silver box, cuz its special)
its a 1 qt filter, I always fill it with a full qt of mobil one before installing it. I dont want the motor running dry for 3 seconds (mabye 4 or 5 with a filter like that). I have a 9qt system now but I think 5 qts still put it to the full mark. with the 1 qt filter on a stock oiling system

 

whoa whoa wtf? 9 QUARTS did u put a big block in you car or something how the hell did u come up with that figure? are u just running a really deep pan or what?

I use the PF1218 too....

 

Bigger is definitely better here, it'll flow more oil and also increase your oil capacity slightly (which puts less stress on the oil)

I use the K&N HP3002, which is the PF1218 equivalent. These filters have an antidrainback valve, while the PF35 does not.

I started using longer filters on an LT1 back in 1996, when I had my 95 Trans Am. Back then I used the PF35L.

There are no drawbacks to using the longer filter here, IMO it's not in danger of getting hit by debris by any means.

 

 

i use the stock filter i cant remember the model i think its pf 58 or something. i want to use the bigger filter thats just like it, just taller and holds more oil is that the pf 1218 you are talking about?

 

I am using a NAPA Gold 1061. Now I have an extra 1/2 quart of oil, I assume that it is basically the same size as all of the other filters mentioned.

 

are u running a stock pan? if so what would you say your TOTAL oil capacity is now?
