big problem????? need help! oil leak

well here we go fellas, we were assembling my engine tongiht. puttin a cam in it. had the heads and intake off gettin ported and things right. well we had tipped the engine up when we were takin the oil pan off to put the timiming cover back on. all of a sudden there was a little oil comin out of the bottom.(the end where the tranny would connect, the engine was vertical), the engine had sat for a while so was it just dry? it looked like it was comin out of the crank seal. please help im desperate. i have the engine ripped out, the car up in the air on a rented hoist hahaha. i have to get this fixed asap lol. thanks boys

Not sure exactly what your looking for. For someone to tell you it's alright so you don't have to replace the seal? No one can say for sure if it's ok. Could have shrunk from sitting.

Anytime you have the engine down that far, it's always smart to replace the seals. Probably a good idea to replace the freeze plugs w/brass ones too.

Was there a full pan of oil? I don't think a main seal is able to be leak proof w/ several quarts of oil trying to escape. Seals like that are more leak resistant than leak proof. Since you have the engine out and it has sat for awhile, why not just replace the seals anyway?
