No one has mention the bose cd system. Form 95 to 96, the bose was awesome. Not so good in the 94. As for 93, I don’t know if there was a bose system offered and in 97 I think the monsoon system replaced the bose system.

Starting in 95, GM switched to the powdered metal rods. Beforehand, the forged "pink" rods were used. I think the pink rods might be a bit stronger, but I've heard the other way around. Anyone have any experience with both?

Also, here is a site that has all the differences of each year.

OBD 2s are nice but they have alot more sensors to deal with. Also in the next few years there gonna try and change the way that inspections are done by scannig the PCms which will cost alot more and make it even harder to pass emissions or even MOD for that matter.
Anywy Im a fan of the OBD1s

I love my 94, but I was lucky! My opti took a dump and was replaced with a vented one before I bought it. I have 98,000 miles and it runs "KICKASS." The only thing I would keep and eye on is the trannys. I bought mine with 50,000 miles on it. At 70,000 miles I blew the tranny. Later, I got a 2000 S-10 Blazer with 60,000 miles and blew the tranny at 75,000 miles. If you get a 94 or a 95 make sure you flush the tranny and fill with good synthetic tranny fluid. Do your best to find out as much as you can about the car's history. That is of course, if you buy an Automatic. Oh by the way, I'm not sure how many years had this option but, my 94 has that silly little "preformance shift" button that makes it shift harder. It dosen't make you go any faster but, it makes driving home from work poundin "Master of Puppets" that much more an experience.

If you live in a place where they do the new obd2 emissions test, and plan on doing major mods, then get a 96 or newer car. No sniffer test makes it a breeze to pass emissions.

Thanks for all the info again ,

Let me ask you this- does the advantage of obd2 being able to scan and diagnose problems outweigh its tendency to throw false codes out when mods are done?

Can someone give me examples of the SES light problem, like what kind of mods would do that, and is it really that big of a problem. What can you do to remedy it?

To me the biggest pain is not knowing what exactly is wrong with your car, and if OBD2 can help with that, then thats probably the way I'd like to go. Any input?

I would say 95 is a great year but since thats the year I have I am bias. To tell the truth one of the advantages of the OBDII is with a AUTO. They can run a higher stall in the converters and not have as many problems as the OBD-1 cars do. But other than that I would say the OBD-1 systems is easier to modify without throwing a SES Code. Also the stock rods on a 95 LT1 are stronger than "pink-rods", but as anything they do have a point.

ok... but the 96/97 cars had the 581 head castings, and a less-restrictive y-pipe design. With an extra 5 to 9 cfm in the heads I find it hard to belive the wern't any stronger. I think the reason you don't notice a difference in ET is that later years had more features/options available adding weight to the car. The only proof I have is a '97 with new plugs/wires/oil that put down 280 rwhp SAE corrected. This is with only a CAI and air foil (on 6-speed speed with 245's of course).

Could tell ya either way for sure though. Your milage may varry.

Monsoon was available in Pontiacs in 1996. The Chevy guys were given access to it later, 1997.
