Best way to reprogram stock engine computer?

I'm looking for some advice on the best way to tune/reprogram my LT1's computer. The engine is dead stock and right now, I'm not looking to swap cams/heads/etc (I got a different car for that kind of stuff), but I'm looking to wake up the LT1 with some simple mods.

Who makes the best controller/chip/whatever to help get more power out of the LT1? What have your experiences been?

Thanks.

If you're looking to do it yourself, I hear Predator is good.

I just ordered a mail order tune from www.madz28.com (now www.madtuner.com ). You'll probably see better results from a mail order than a hand held tuner. Before I had my mail order I had a Hypertech. It was decent, couldn't really tell much of a difference besides removing the speed limiter and increased shift firmness.

The Hypertech programmer is not worth the money in my opinion. A mail-order tune is your best bang for the buck. This forum has two of them as supporting vendors, Madz28 as noted above, and also www.pcmforless.com

Right. In case you misread that as recommending the Hypertech, I'd like to clarify that I do not recommend it.

I don't think Predator makes anything for the OBD-I LT1. If you want to tune it yourself, using a laptop:

Software:
http://www.carputing.com/
http://www.tunercat.com/

Cable:

If you know nothing of tuning the car yourself, then go with the mail order tune, i've had nothing but good results out of 'MadZ/28' but as mentioned, the forum is devided between them and 'PCMforless', both seem to be favorites and well worth the money, chosing between them is up to you.
for what its worth, my madz/28 tune took .6 seconds off of my 1/8 mile time!

I have looked at CATS and LT1edit for tunning softwere but LT1 edit is like twice the price. What the differance and is that one worth the extra money.

I'm interested in this too. I need to change my rear end/tire size info. The speed limiter stops me at 93mph!

BTW, what ECM does the 94LT1 use? I keep hearing stories of how the 93-94-95 were all different? Or was that only for the transmission?

As far as i know,

93 was 1227730 obd-0, TV cable 700r4
94 was 1227730 obd-I, 4L60E
95 was xxxxxxxx obd-II, 4L60E

could anyone clarify, I haven't seen all this information together in one place as of yet.

All 93-95 ECM's (93) and PCM's (94/95) are OBD-I. 93 has a programmable chip, quad driver modules, no knock module socket, and is set up to support speed-density and batch fire injection, with no tranny controls. 94/95 are basically the same, with the switch to a fixed chip, deletion of the quad driver modules, addition of a knock module socket, mass air, sequential injection and tranny controls.

95 is different not in the PCM, but at the ALDL connector, where they use a 16-pin OBD-II style connector. But its still an OBD-I PCM.
