There is no difference between D and OD when WOT, just as everybody else has said. I do disagree with manual shifting. On a stock car there is no need to shift it yourself, but I can tell a difference in my car. Once you start modding it your powerband will change, but stock shift points won't. That is why manuals have an advantage, they can shift whenever they want to stay within there powerband. In my car I am about .1 to .15 faster when i shift it manually. IMHO if you plan on modding it i would do CAI, Exhaust, then Torque convertor.....then you won't have to worry about those M6 cars....as much

well I guess I'll put my two cents in...
i've heard of people manual shifting there a4's at the track and loseing several tenths.

I was playing around with my friend one time and I had it in the lowest gear and I floored it. It's been a while but I think it reved to 6,000 rpms or so untill I got scared it wasn't going to shift and that it would redline my engine so I backed off.

..and about racing it's all about practice, and feeling those tires. You only want to bearly spin them when your taking off. I heard one time optimal spin would by like 10% from a complete burnout. If that makes sense.

manually shifting is not a good idea as the tranny is not ready for the shift and does not have sufficient fluid. that's great for you if you get away with it but it's just asking for it. also there is ABSOLUTELY NO difference in OD and D at WOT. and you can't be shifting at 6200 considering the rev limiter is either 5800 or 6000. mine is 6200 and i forgot what i changed it from. i think my tach reads a little higher than it actually shifts too at WOT.

when i ran my 94 A4 stock on crappy street tires i would stage, brake hard, and rev up almost to 2000, just before the tires would cut loose. then at the 3rd yellow i'd give between 1/2 and 3/4 pedal and with lots of practice i figured out where i could go at WOT. i managed a 13.9 out of my bone stock 94 Z28 A4 on crappy 235 street tires. took lots of practice though.

I had it in OD, if that's what you are asking. the only difference especially at WOT, but i would think at any driving condition between D and OD is the extra gear. i know at WOT that there is no difference in D and OD except at around 120 or so you will hit the rev limiter instead of shifting to 4th.
