best way to pull engine?
The factory manual indicates the engine is dropped out the bottom. This woulld require lifting the car high enough to slide the engine and subframe out. Does anyone have any advice on the best method? Can the engine also be removed from the top?
Its just faster to pull out of the bottom. I did mine a couple of months ago from the top without any problem. Just takes longer. The Haynes manual tells you how to do it from the top. Just the ol fashion way.
we just got mine out from the top .. watch out for senors behind the intake. also watch out for that ac compossser back bolt mine got broke.. it wasn't that hard it took us a few days but we never just stayed on it. but we gut it out. with a cherry picker from the driverside then we spun the motor around and it came right out. my mustang buddy broke some stuff but not when we were takin the motor out. it was while we were taking the stuff lose from it
It would depend on how you look at it I guess. When I pulled mine, I came out the top. But, looking back, I'm going to go back up through the bottom. That way I can put up the complete engine, wiring harness, headers, and transmission all at once.
But, out the top is easily do-able.

I was unsure which way to pull mine and I ended up pulling from the bottom. It was easy and the nice thing is that I pulled it with
everything on the motor (tranny,intake,headers,etc.). I was switching my K-Member for a BMR unit and it just made it really easy. If I had to do it again I would do it from the bottome even if I was putting the stock K-member back in. It gives you a chance to clean everything up. Here is the link that has some detailed instructions. http://ken.lowrance.com/Projects/Hea...CamDefault.htm

I don't know which way is easier but I put my motor back in through the top using a tool like the TPIS "Happy Hooker". It is a plate that bolts to the 4 fuel rail bolts and then has a bar with a hoop on it attatched. The bar is "hooked" to allow it to go around the cowl. It is a great tool and makes the motor much easir to put in than trying to strap chains diagonally. I don't know if my description made sense but maybe someone has a picture of what I am talking about.
You can get some good ideas of how to put the motor in from the TPIS catalog. They start it in sideways (or diagonal) and then rotate it once it is part of the way in the engine bay. That is how I did it and it worked pretty good.
i went out the bottom with mine. It took me and my dad 3.5 hours to get it out and we were being really careful to make sure everything was unhooked as the motor came out. We did it with a engine hoist to lift the body and a semi truck tranny jack to carry the k member on. I would take it out from the bottom because you can assemble the complete motor and tranny then install it.
