Don't mean to "jack" the thread, but does any one know how emission friendly is the gm847??

With mildly ported heads, those cams shouldn't pull past 6200-6300.

With nearly stock heads mine peaked right at 6500..... meaning a shift point of @ 6800 at least for SOTP. Higher I shift at the track the better my times.

Damn, I would have thought they would have only peaked around that with fully ported heads.

I'd like to see a dyno sheet on that one.

he's right if you want the most power out of those cams, you need to shift at around 6700-6800. Obviously each car's different and each "ported" heads are different, but thats just the norm. If then engine isnt built for rpms, i wouldnt get either cam personally. Maybe a cc503 would be nice for him.

CC306 Graph, old motor. Peaked @ 6k.

Here is an early one of the new motor, I was having ignition problems up to but you can see that it pulled higher up, esp how much longer the tq stayed up.

Re: Best off shelf Cam?

my CC269 cam is set to perform from 1500 - 5500 RPMs which to me is a NICE street cam, currently i am still installing mine and will be letting you all know how it goes, a cousin of mine has a 1995 TransAm and he has the CC269 cam, i rode in and drove the car before and after his install, with the right coponents to accompany the cam, it was defenitly a noticeable increase and had a niiiiice low tone to it. If your interested the CC part number for the cam is 07-502-8
good luck!

It's not peaking near 6500. In the second graph, if you smooth out the dip and peak around 6400, it appears the cam may be peaking at 6200.

Re: Best off shelf Cam?

Well I've researched and read about as much as I can and we're still undecided.

This engine is really just something that is being thrown together with stock parts and just has to last until the end of racing season. He already has another block that will be built for next season so spinning this one to the moon is not a big deal if need be.

Maybe he should go custom as it seems most off the shelf cams try to stay somewhere in the middle of streetable and track only. This car will be a weekend warrior so he's looking for something that is more "track" oriented than "street".
