Best heads to go with my mods!

Basically all the mods I have are in my sig. Pretty soon I am going to get some 32lb injectors. And my girlfriend got me a Mallory ignition. So now I am either lookin at ported heads, or going with with AFR 120's. I am kinda leaning more twords the 120's because I know within the next year or so I am goin to go with a 383 stroker, and those heads would be nice on that . Just need some other fellas opinions. Thanks guys.

As far as I know AFR only makes a 190 and a 220.. never heard of the 120. If you are planning on the 383 then go with the 220s.

I don't think it'd be ideal at ALL to go with a big head like the AFR 220 and a smaller cam like the hotcam, especially at stock displacement. To make the AFR 220s work at 350ci, you'll have to rev the **** out of the motor, and unfortuntely the hotcam isn't going to do that.

Hell, give it a try and see if you like it... Can't hurt, especially since you're going with the 383 soon enough

You'd lose alot of low end hp and torque. I'd invest in an AFR Hydra-Rev kit so you can rev the hotcam a little higher if you're serious about this.

Either that, or get another cam

EDIT:
Also, the 2800 stall needs to hit the road.

Why would my 2800 hit the road? And about how much low end would I loose. ALSO what in gods name is a Hydra-Rev kit? Thanks dude.

You'd probably make peak torque at 4000+ rpm, so you'd need another converter.

The hotcam isn't going to support 6800+ rpm, which is where you'll have to be with a 220cc-headed 350ci motor. That kind of rpm is going to be hard on the stock internals, but you won't have to worry about that for very long.

If you don't know what the AFR Hydra-rev is, then do a search on my name. I just answered that question in a previous thread.

Your best bet is to get a 4000+ converter and cam at LEAST the size of a CC306 to feed those big heads with smaller displacement. My advice on converter selection is to get those heads/cam in the car, dyno tune it, then select a converter 200-300 rpm lower than peak torque.

Hope this helps.

Re: Best heads to go with my mods!

I say get the AFR 190s and then when you wanna go 383, just have them ported out to 220. They are the same castings, just more portwork on the 220s.

Thats the best way to go. Also, the hotcam sucks. Go bigger. At least 230/236. Trust me on that. You will start to hate the hotcam when a stock headed LT1 with a 306 passes you.
