Best cheap scan tool for '97
Best cheap scan tool for '97
Have a check engine light, after the rebuild. The alt is acting up, and the check engine light came on this week.
I assume that you cannot read the code from the ignition key trick, used on some cars.
I have a superchips programmer for another vehicle, and it reads codes. Is there anything similar for the lt1 97?
thx

There are "code readers" for OBD-II for as low as $40. Check Harbor Freight. They are not "scanners", just code readers. The local Pep Boys has an Actron for $69 frequently.
Re: Best cheap scan tool for '97
Any body got any recommendations on an actual scanner that will get o2 readings and just about any other info i would need. I am looking for the cheapest option for 97 odb2 as well.
Re: Best cheap scan tool for '97
Check here for some refurbs: www.autocheckup.net/ They also have new units. Well, looks like they don't have any refurb OBDII scan tools at the moment.

Look for a used HPPIII for and also get the Powerscan cartridge. You can
probably find all this used, just keep watching the board. Other than that
it's a cheap laptop and some software which will probably cost a bit more.
I have an HPPIII w/powerscan but need to keep it for the times I have the
OBDII PCM installed.
