I plan on keeping my stock heads and I'm instaliing the Crane 210/224 this summer. It's a small cam, but it has a broad, flat torque curve. It fit's the LT-1 very well. Look around, a lot of people are running mid/low 12's with it, some are even running high 11's. The hotcam is another great choice for stock heads and it comes in a kit, so it's real cheap. I should be running mid-12's with my setup and the 210/224. Then it's just a matter of traction, suspension, weight, and driving to go faster. Smaller cams yield great results, it's not always better to have the biggest cam you can find. You'll have issues with streetablity, emmissions, tunning (should tune any cam, but you may run into more issues with a larger cam). just food for thought.

That is all very true. I've thought about the Hotcam kit many times. I want mid 12's for now, because that's pretty attainable. I'm open to any and all suggestions. I'm also kind of partial to some serious lope. Although, I guess with something smaller like a hotcam, you could lower the idle.

why have a seriously mean sounding lope, when you aint gonna be makin some serious HP? just go with the torquier smaller cam, what you give up in HP you make in TQ, AND its more driveable and more of a sleeper. With 3.42's i wouldnt suggest gettin a cam that will rev much more than 6000 or so.Also a much higher stall TC will be needed for a bigger cam, which will generate more heat and kill the tranny quicker. For some reason (dont know why) im not a huge fan of the HOT Cam. In my stroker LT1 Caprice i had the Comp 503 with 224/230 duration and she ran like a BEAST.

the hotcam comes with a 114 lsa or a 112 lsa (which will lope). the 210/224 is 112, but from what I've heard it doesn't lope much b/c it's small.

I'm aware of the Hot Cam having a 112 LSA. I'm simply looking for several opinions on cams that are known to give me what I'm looking for. Also, who doesn't love lope? I'm leaning towards the Hot Cam for right now, just because it comes in a kit that is under $700. It's very appealing.

we all like lope, but to have a lopy *** car thats only putting out about maybe 400HP out of a 5.7 is kinda rediculous.

LS1_03: You will be happy with the 3.42 gears when you get them installed. My 96 A4 w/ 2.73 went a best of 14.299 @ 97-98 before the gear install. Now with my 3.42s (before headers) I ran 14.01 hitting the rev limiter in 2nd before going to 3rd due to programming issue.

Now I have headers, and am working on some tuning to fix my shifting problem, and get the fueling right.

After that, it's time to consider a cam.

I am thinking I'll either run a HotCam or a 224/230 because I want a mild cam that won't kill my valvetrain. I don't want high lift, and I don't want to have to port the heads for a while.

Good luck!

From where? PM if you want to tell me and keep it secret. I've checked a few places and the cheapest I've seen it is $659.

I know I'll be happy with the 3.42s I've ran what I ran in my sig, I think it's got more in it with a different launch technique. We'll see. I'll probably get LTs before the cam. Depends on what I get when taxes come back.

I've also heard great things about the GM847.

Last year around this time I had just broken into the 12's (12.97) with boltons. Then I added the hotcam kit and was hoping to run at least mid 12's with it. It's certainly not the biggest or best cam out there but I'm happy with what I've gotten out of it so far.
