battery - insufficient power

I've got a Sears Die Hard battery in my car (it was in there when I purchased it in Sept), but it's not the "Gold" but a lower model. Now a buddy of mine mentioned to me that only the Gold Die Hard battery matches factory AC Delco specs ?

Could this be a contributing factor as to why my engine takes a long time to crank? Could this rob HP?

Thanks | Brian

Long crank, you should look elsewhere.

Uh........No. Not if its a brand new battery only 3 months old. What do you mean "long time to crank"? As in you turn the ignition and nothing happens then it starts to turn over, or it turns over and over before firing up?

millisecond my 91 TransAm 305TPI fired up very quick also, ~2cranks.

i purchased my current 95 with the battery already in it (not a new battery). the starter seems rapid/consistent enough, just takes a long time to start (approx 4-5 full seconds average, 16-20 cranks?) i was just wondering if a less powerful battery would have trouble starting the 5.7L, kind of like when you try to get a jump start off of a 4cyl or 6cyl car and it's hard to do ?

related issue: the car also revs up to 1900-2000rpm for about 10-12secs when it has been recently turned off and is restarted in a 5-15minute period. if i restart the car any sooner or any later, it fires up normally

anyone?! btw, TB & IAC has been unbolted and cleaned, no difference...

thanks for the help | Brian
