Bang!

I have a banging on the underside of my car. It is something hitting the bottom floorpan around driver's side(?) when going over bumps and dips. I have looked at the y pipe and it is secure and seems to have plenty of clearance. I have also checked the tranny mount and it also seems intact(?). What else could it be and what can I do to find out where and what it is? Thanks to everyone,

Kyle

Are you sure its not a bad shock?

Is it a rattle like a heat shield?

sounds can be very decieving. It could be shock mounts or even a loose motor mount (doubt it, dont worry )

theres not much under there
a tranny and an exhuast, i'm betting its coming from somewhere else

I replaced the shocks all around about 6 months ago withy no problem since then. I took the car to a guy on the board to do the cam swap in early January and started noticing the bumping then. It is not a rattle but a thud. I can feel the hit on the floor in my feet and it is audible from inside the car. I am pretty sure it is either the y pipe or tranny. I also thought motor mount but when I rev it at idle, the engine has minimal movement. Is there any way to test these three things? Thanks,

Kyle

Maybe check your tranny mount.

Is it only under acceleration? Or is it only when your suspension compresses?

When my suspension compresses. I can be cruising at 45 mph down my road and ...thump. Any ideas?

This sounds a lot like a tranny mount. It is easy to check out. Get the car up on stands and jack easy on the back of the transmission and inspect the tranny mount to see if its broken.
