Bad oil Psi. after oil change.

Well I just changed my oil yesterday to Syn. I always had dino oil before and I notice now when I start her up she the pressure is good around 40+ psi. But when she is all warmed up it is at around 15-20 PSi at idle.

I think I may have put in a lil to much oil (put in 6 bottles) but I only let it drain for like 10 min. I checked my Dip Stick it show about a quart high, But I cant be sure it is accurate because it is not the stock dip stick it is on they put on after the Long tube Install so maybe it is longer than the stock one.

What does u all think I should do?

You should probably calculate how much oil you have in there. I suppose you could put a larger filter on and see if it makes any difference.

One problem with too much oil is that the crank might whip it into foam which is not good for oiling and probably will affect the pressure.JMHO

You didn't use a different oil filter did you? Some will cause a fluctuation in the oil PSI.

And yes that is way too much oil.

Hey buddy....Your not driving a big block there!!!! 6bottles or quarts of oil is Wayyy too much. Take about a bottle and a half out an and hope that you didnt destroy anything.

BTW...ever hear of the oil dipstick? Its used to see how much oil you actually have in there. Make sure its in the area with a the xxxx/hash marks. Might want to check that out next time

EDIT...I forgot to say, my gf has a 94z24 cavailer. It had 120k miles on it this summer and always used dino oil. She needed her oil changed and and said she wanted that high mileage synthetic(forgoet who makes it, red bottle). Anyhow, I put that in and new filter for synthetics...and her oil pressure would bounce from 0psi to like 60psi(or whatever max is in her car) during driving, idle, startup , etc. So the next day I switched it back to normal dino oil and cheap *** fram oil filter. Its been problem free for the last year almost.

You switched to synthetic oil from dyno oil. Synthetic oil is alot thinner. Put back regular oil and see what happens to your oil pressure.

15-20 psi at idle is ideal.
