Bad mass airflow sensor?
Bad mass airflow sensor?
hey everyone, new to the site...just got my camaro 2 days ago...95 z28 6speed...having a few issues and was wondering if u guys could help...issue one...i noticed when i drove the car home...when u stepped on it their was hardly no power..and backfires and kinda acted like a dead pedal...i noticed it had an after market MAF sensor..i unplugged it and the car runs perfect...does this mean the MAF sensor is bad? dirty?......second...i also notice when u put the car in reverse u have to hold the shifter in place or it will pop out..what causes this?...thanks guys!!!!!
Re: Bad mass airflow sensor?
Is the SES light on? There is a code for an MAF sensor that is not working at all, but not for an MAF sensor that is inaccurate. When you unplug the MAF sensor, the PCM defaults to speed-density, allowing it to calculate the mass air flow based on RPM, MAP and IAT. If it runs better, it would be pointing to an inaccurate MAF sensor.
Is it possible there is a tear in the rubber elbow between the MAF sensor and the throttle body, or that the bottom of the rubber elbow is not fully on the throttle body? That will throw the MAF sensor readings off. Is it possible the MAF sensor is not installed in the correct direction - there should be an arrow on it showing air flow direction?
In general, aftermarket MAF sensors are something that should be avoided.
