Bad MAF? Breaking up/backfire

Hi...I have a 95' z/28...new plugs, wires, coil, opti.car runs great...but it has a break up like it hits a rev limiter around 5k sometimes under wot. But sometimes if you ease into it,it does not do it...smooth to 6k and snaps the tires loose in 2nd...I had it scanned and it said the maf is maxing out at 3k rpm....is this possible?....any help? Please???
Thx!!!
