BAd gas smell after FULL tank?

any ideas as to why this happens?

I have cut open a hole on teh body to get to the fuel tank for easy access.

could this be my problem?

also usually if i have the windows up it doesnt smell but when let down, its bad.

Ive tried to trace all my fuel lines and make sure nothing is leaking and it isnt.
No leaks from anything.

im lost.

Your charcoal canister is located in the driver's side rear wheel well; it could be failing causing the gas smell.

Re: BAd gas smell after FULL tank?

It's probably the charcoal canister.

One of the biggest problems is people who do not fill the tank properly. Many people will continue to fill the gas tank after the pump automatically shuts off (usually to get to the nearest dollar or something). This overfills the tank and can send liquid gasoline into the charcoal canister, flooding it.

The vapors from the CC is sent into the intake manifold through the EVAP system. You may want to check to make sure that this system is indeed working.

Check the hoses for the canister first - both ends, at the tank and at the canister. If they are loose or cracked it will smell.

I had the same issue, The hose came off the canister and you could smell raw gas all the time. Put the hose back on and smell is gone.

The hole you cut to access the tank and pump- get a piece of metal and some gasket material to cover the hole. I had a similar fuel smell problem-it was the "O" ring gasket it had a small tear in it and only smelled fuel when the tank was full or near full. Hopes this helps 93ZTed.
