Bad Fuel Pump?

My car was running fine and then I went to start it once. It ran real rough then died whenever I put my foot on the gas. I barley got it to start a couple more times then it would not start any more. It just cranks and does not fire. Had it towed home.

So I did the following tests.

1. Turned the key on. Cannot hear the fuel pump prime.

2. Depressed schaeder valve. No pressure or fuel coming out.

3. Jumped the fuel pump prime connector to the battery. Could not hear the fuel pump run.

4. Removed the cover for the fuel pump relay. I can feel the relay click when I turn the key.

5. Security light goes from blinking to solid for about 4 or 5 seconds when I turn the key and then goes out. I think the VATS is okay.

I am pretty sure the fuel pump is bad. I just wanted to check to see if there is any other tests I should perform before tearing into it. Thanks!

No, sounds like you have it right. About the only other thing to look at is the fuel pump relay. It is located under the 'dead' pedal on the drivers floor....

Good luck!

Re: Bad Fuel Pump?

I did remove the dead pedal. I could feel the relay click when I turned the key. Is there a better way to check the relay?
