Yep, I know I am late but I just saw his topic while doing a search. I have also had problems out of the Canton pan. I called NuTek who told me to call Thor at Canton. This has been about 5 months ago but he straight out told me he hadnt heard of any fitment or leaking problems with the oil pans. My pan leaked a steady stream of oil and this was putting it on out of the car. We redid it a second time and used almost a tube of rtv and it slowed the leak down but didnt stop it completely. He told me the only change to the new pan was to allow a little more room for the oil level sensor. After telling me they have not had any problems he told me I could send it back to him and he could look at it but wouldnt promise anything. My main problem was the oil dipstick hole. I will never buy another Canton product.
Are you sure it is not the rear main seal leaking? That was my problem last time. For some reason during the last 2 rebuilds plus the 1 my brother had performed prior to my currrent rebuild, the stock rear main seal was used.
I ended up putting a teflon rear main seal in the system this time from Autozone.
I had two problems with my Canton oil pan. I am sure my oil is an old style, I have had it over 2 years.
Dipstick tube would not go it. Pissed me off like no other.
After pulling the motor last time, I noticed on the oil pan a bad wear pattern. It had been sitting on the rack and pinion and was slowly wearing thru my oil pan. If I would not have pulled my motor, it would have probably within 1 season simply created a huge crack in it.
To resolve the dispstick issue, I cut the base off some and put some silicon around the top. No leaks, BUT, you should not run a stock dipstick because I had an issue with the dipstick end getting pulled in the rotating assembly. SO, I have a short dipstick and an original one in the trunk for checking.
To resolve the oil pan sitting on the rack and pinion, I could have bought a new oil pan that resolved the issue or buy a k-member modified for the oil pan. I opted for the k-member with special accomidations to have the rack and pinion lowered 1/2". No problems now.
