Avoid Canton Race Products At All Costs!!!!

Over this past winter I had a major rebuild done on my 1994 Camaro. When we came to the oil pan and oiling pump, it was decided to go with a Canton Pan, pump and pickup. BIGGEST MISTAKE ALL YEAR. After dumping over 350.00 for the parts, then the labor costs to have it installed, I get the joy of having a LEAK!!! To the amount of about a 1/4 quart in a overnight time period. I leave puddles anywhere I go, and the underside of the car is coated with crap just in getting it home. I have put maybe 100 miles on the car with the leak, and that was to get it to appointments neccessary to finish the project. I cant drive it like this, it smokes like mad.

Anyway, Pissed off, but holding it in, I sent a email to Canton about 2 weeks ago. I recieved a voice mail from someone named Thor, stating that he would call back to discuss the problem. I never recieved another call from them. So now I am stuck with a leaky 350.00 dollar pan, and a car that I cant drive till it is fixed. The worst part is I am totally spent when it comes to cash to have this done again. The motor basically has to be pulled off the cradle, and then have the pan replaced. I dont have the resources to do this, or the cash to pay for it again.

Anyway, avoid Canton and their products. There customer support is much to be desired, and their products obviously arent even leak tested. Blows me away. Sorry, had to vent, and I wanted to make sure you all are warned before you jump on the Canton bandwagon.

Opinions???

Sounds like you have th old style pan. I have one too and it severely sucks. I have silicone all over the place, the bung hole it horrible, and the dipstick tube is a mound of silicone. At the time it was the best product I could find however. It does still leak, and like you, after all the work to get it installed I'm not willing to pay out again to buy a pan that fits.

I hear that canton has re-designed their pans and the new ones fit fine. You should take control of your situation and follow up with Canton. Just because they are slow to call back doesn't mean they may not have an offer for you. It is ultimately your responsibility to follow up with them to make things right.

I hope it isnt a old style pan, I just bought it brand new from LS1Speed.com about a month ago. The dipstick tube is ok, but it is actually the welds that are leaking. Two of them, you can wipe it off and actually watch it seep from the faulty weld. Your probably right, I will follow up with them. I just sent off another email to Thor, we will see what he is able to do. It is just really frustrating to buy a part you count on, then have it be defective. What really gets my goat is that I have to pay to have their problem fixed. Just not right IMO.

To those of you that are going to go this route, make sure you leak test the pans before you put it in. Good advise...trust me.

2 flaws with that idea.

1) Already tried to do that, and it wont totally seal it up.

2) Why in the hell should I have to put JB weld on a 350.00 dollar brand new oil pan. That is total CRAP It shouldnt leak in the first place.

To repeat Dream's question, how do you tell the new style from the old? Also, is there a part # difference to enable you to order one from the other?
I've been running thier standard volume anti-cavitation oil pump for around a year and a half and my 134K engine still lives. My Z had 125K on the odo when I installed it. I bought it from them partly based on my recollection of thier good reputation from the past and good experience with thier oil filtering products. What's thier rep with thier oil pumps?

What's so special about a LT1 oil pan? Is Canton the only company that makes one that will work in a 4th gen F-body?

As far as I have seen, yes. I could be wrong, infact I hope I am. I would pay twice the price for one that didnt leak and had a different name on the side of it.

I think i need to get with a few guys here at work and custom fab one up...

Q sorry about your problems, seems like your car and mine have a lot in common-
never ending problems due to poor customer service.

and please dont weld it -
things exlode in there, tons of volitiles.

What do you guys think about taking a stock LT1 oil pan and cutting/welding a new sump onto and adding some baffles?
