There are no guarantees of anything in racing. You could blow it up through the lights and get oil under the tires and with no engine and awfully hard to stear try shuting it down running in a puddle of oil at about 115mph. Your theory has big holes in it!!!!!

IMO nothing is as lame as pulling a belt at the track IN A STREET CAR.

You know once the car starts you can pull the battery...easy 40 lbs off the front end....
This is a good idea as well....Hummm take 40 lbs out or free up .05 in the quarter. Thats a tough one

Not sure where the connection is there but whatever. It is not a theroy. If you take the belt off, your car will eventually run out of juice and die. This is a fact. You are right that there are no guarantees in racing, but why worry yourself of the thousands of different possibilities that could happen. Instead, prepare for the ones that are more likely and keep things safe.

Yeah, pulling the belt is definately lame. I really can't understand why people are willing to completely disassemble their cars at the track(belt, spare, seats, interior plastic, anything not bolted down, empty gas tank, etc...) to gain maybe a tenth. I guess if you were running 13.001's all night and wanted to get a 12 second run in for bragging rights then more power to ya, but I see people doing this to STREET cars EVERY weekend. When I go to the track I leave everything alone. I don't touch anything, not even the tires. I always have at least half a tank of gas. I never ice the intake or do anything that would make the car run differently than it would on the street. JMHO

If there is one thing that will really kill performance on an EFI setup, its weak voltage to the fuel pump, injectors and PCM. Many of the serious racers convert to a sturdy 16V system to protect against low system voltage.

his theory is fine, yes there is always the chance your car will die. but why do something to increase those chances?

there is a right way to make power and a wrong way. taking your belt off would fall under the wrong way.

reach in your pocket and buy an underdrive pulley

If you are looking to gain .05, just don't eat for a few days before you go to the track. That is what I will be doing, as well as shaving off all my body hair.

If you have a stick, you can down shift to slow down and pull the e-brake slightly. I still wouldn't do it...

you could always cut a hole in the floorboard (weight reduction) and use your feet to stop...

I gained .3 by pulling off the belt. Before doing this, I would check voltage at the battery to make sure you have at least 13V. Then, charge between runs. I could probably gain even more now that my PS pump took a crap.
