The piston to wall clearnace will tell you if the pistons are still fitting good in the bore. If you have metal flakes run a magnet through and see if it is non ferrous or Iron or steel. If its iron or steel , you'll be replacing hard parts. (like the crank).

I have seen pressed in wrist pins (like what a stock LT1 has) elongate the whole it goes through in the pison, it actually makes a double tap sound when it does this. If your wrist pin comes out nothing but evil things can happen. (like big windows in the side of the block etc.)

WS, wouldn't I have marks all over my crank if that was the case?

Yes on one rod journal (or more) you would have uneven rediculous wear and the bearing will have "turned" on the surface free of the rod.

Well we have checked the crank and it is spotless. We saw one main bearing that looked a little tapered I guess you would call it. Two spots on 1 bearing main bearing. Other than that, the crank he said looked awesome still. Could I have caught this soon enough to just get a few specks of metal in my oil? I mean there was just little to none really... nothing to the matter of it looking silver or anything. Did I catch it soon enough? Spun bearing that is? All the tabs are still fine on the bearing too though?????

Was it tapered on the butt ends that face the other bearing half? if so it could have been the beginning.

Exactly what happened to mine....that;'s why I have the 383 now...

Sounds like about 3 lifters tapping in the engine...but it sounds like it is down in the engine.

Let me ask this.... would I get a knock if it was just in the begining?
