If anything comes of scoring it, it'll be one of those curled up pieces that you can grab and toss. I only had 1 of those. No chips or flakes of metal flying around anywhere, there's nothing high speed about it. I understand your apprehension (albeit unfounded) though.
I can certainly recommend Permatex "Ultra Copper." The fallout from the original leak that started when I changed over to Mobil 1 took out the clutch disk. I fixed the intake first and then the clutch-still holding from 2 years ago. I let the stuff sit an hour or so before putting on the manifold and waited 24 hours before starting.
i just put a regular bead like you are instructed to do and after it was dry i put some more silicone on my finger and caked it on over the crack between the block/intake where a leak could develope....so far so good after 5 months.
