Welcome to the board.

I am no boost expert, but I would not recommend any type of boost on the LT1 without lowering the compression to the 9:1 range. I have seen many peeps nuke the engine trying to run boost on the stock compression. That and to have 141k....boost is just not a good idea.

If you have the cash for a rebuild; a 355 with ported stock heads and a good cam will give you a nice power boost. You would need all the supporting mods too. Cold air intake, headers, good catback exhaust....etc.

If you are new to this game with limited cash. Start with the headers, catback exhaust, and cold air intake.

There are many routes you can take. Many depend on your wallet size.

Lots and lots of people do FI on a stock compression car with good results. Limit the boost to 4.5 to 6 psi and you'll be OK if the bottom end is OK.

That siad, I agree with ACE1252...141K is a lot to be pushing hard. Either do a rebuild and go with FI or just improve the breathing and enjoy the current setup. ...

Maybe it's not the compression, but the pistons that give problems. I can't quite remember, but I think forged are a better choice than hypereutectic pistons for high compression FI apps.

Im glad to see you want to FI ur LT1, but if u really want a cool car, a nice head/cam package with the right exhaust not only can make u very good power, but it can make it sound mean as hell. when you get ur engine rebuilt, it something to consider. then u can always spray NOS to make even more power if u felt like it. Supercharging and turbo charging is a hell of alot more then just slapping it on and hoping ur not pumping too much psi into the engine. Although anyone on this board that does force induct an LT1 will probably tell u that yes it is cool as hell!

I would start off with an engine build with ported heads and a custom cam, the usual boltons and free mods. that will b a great start abd you can always add from there.

But the point is, you aren't going to nuke your stock LT1 engine, with its 10.5:1 compression and hypereutectic pistons, just because you put a low boost S/C on it. Lots of people run them. Run them lean, and you will have problems... but set up correctly, it isn't sure death. With 141K miles, it will depend how well the engine has been maintained, and how well the rings seal.

And.... trying to do it "cheap" is probably a bigger mistake.

The performance boost/dollar for a low boost SC is not very favorable on an LT1 unless you get the parts very cheap. OTOH, the gains/$$ for N2O are very favorable.

Im in the 11's with a stock motor(new valve springs and rockers). 7 lbs of boost done with every precaution in mind. This is the second season of beating the snot out of it on the street and on the track.
