Any way to bypass the knock sensor?
Any way to bypass the knock sensor?
Well my clutch is chattering like hell, and i have this feeling that it's causing false knock to show up and retarding the timing, hence the lack of MPH in the time in my sig. Is there any way short of reprogramming to bypass teh knock sensor/knock module so it wont pull timing at all? Like take out the KM? I basically just want to see if it is pulling timing.
I just wanted to do it temporarily (like maybe a trip around the block or even better a back to back pass at the strip) just to see if the ECU was sensing that chatter as knock and pulling the hell out of timing.
Did you search? This thread was just last posted to...well...today.

You don't have to do anything other than hook up a scanner, or scan software. That will tell you what the PCM is doing with regard to knock retard. Eliminates all the guess work.
The scanner will tell you whether you have knock retard or not... if you have it, then you need to track down the source..... real or false

After reading a few of the threads regarding this problem (sorry, i didnt do a search until you told me to), I have a few other questions. Would the knock/timing retard have anything to do with bad gas mileage? And does it also show up as a SES? I do have an SES every once in a while when driving down the road, but I'm not sure what it is because i dont have/have access to a scanner ATM.
There is no SES light for knock retard. You would get an SES if the knock sensor or knock module was faulty. If you simply disconnect the knock sensor, the PCM will default to an algorithm that pulls up to 15degrees of timing, depending on operating conditions.
You really need the scan if your SES light is coming on. Even if the light goes off, the code for the problem that set the light is stored in the PCM and can be retrieved.

Would a Scanmaster give me the ability to scan for knock retard as well as pull codes? I've been thinking about getting one because it would be cheaper than spending 2-300 for a laptop, 60 for a cable, and then another 60 for a program to scan with.
For a detailed write-up about the functions of the Scanmaster and the PCM, have a look at Fred's site:
