Another 847 record....

Whelp i started off with the highest stock heads dyno awhile ago at 357.

Few weeks ago, another guy, also with 847 on here did 358 or 359?

Anyways, our car club had a dyno day on saturday. 1997 m6 SS, full bolt on plus 847 put down 360.67.

The 847 on stock heads is looking like a consistent winner I want to go back to a 10 bolt and dyno again

You don't have to go to an 847 to get to 360 RWHP in an M6.
But, I'd have to agree.... good numbers!

Impressive indeed. They're pretty good with AI heads too. My buddy Grease put down 412 I believe with AI heads and bolt ons - M6 car.

Ion you dont count, you tune these things for a living. I know you really fed that baby cam of yours some 110 leaded and cranked up the timing tables jk jk. You made high 340s (?) or something in a4 with a baby cam. Nothing wrong about that. You get that thing leaving well at the track and i dont want to mess with it.

Baby cam....

Actually, I wasn't necessarily talking about mine... It's definetely a nice cam, but I'm sure you can do it with a 230/236 also.... A custom cam would be even better.

Beleive it or not, I've had several customers with a 306 or 847 requesting the rev limiter set at 6200. Question...why do you go to such a big cam in the first place if you don't plan to rev it high? That's why there are smaller cams out there that will do a pretty good job only at lower rpms.

Re: Another 847 record....

Ya my buddy made mid 330s in an a4 car with 230/236 on a 110. Im sure with an m6 it would have been 350ish too.

As for the rev limiter question, i have NO idea, but it doesnt suprise me one bit. My car doesnt have a rev limiter, nor has it for a longtime. It always just got in the way of what i was trying to do, lol. The 847 in my car peaked at about 6100, but was tabletop flat above 350 rwhp from 5500-6600ish. If you arent using that wide powerband, then you are losing every point of getting a bigger cam. 100% agree with you, go smaller and go faster if you arent going to rev.

I'm hoping for 380ish with my set of heads that I got and the 847... with BBK shorties ... and I have no problem reving my car high... when I get it dyno tuned I'll rev it till power drops off, and then just set shifts a few 100 RPMs lower than that.

Well, from what I've seen the smaller cams only really beat the bigger (good) ones down at "drivablility RPM's" when set up right. Altjar makes more power at 4500 RPM than almost all of the "baby cam" dynos I've seen. So unless they're going to be shifting well below 6K or so (why bother with a cam in the first place then?)....

But yeah, they are wasting much of the cam's potential. However, just because they're doing that doesn't mean they'd be faster using all of the (lesser) potential of a smaller cam.

Re: Another 847 record....

In an auto with 3.42s, I would shift at 6600, but I normally set the shift points ~6400.

Here's his dyno graph. Not too shabby for a cam only car.
