I've got bolt ons, 383, LE3 H/C. From what i've heard i should go with steel. I figured i would ask people with experience here. Thanks.

An aluminum flywheel will allow you to rev quicker and drop rpms quicker as well. This allows for very quick shifts, but makes starting from a dead stop harder. A steel or iron flywheel will slow the revs but will keep the engine spinning which will allow for easier street driving, the rpms won't drop as easily so shifting won't be quite as quick but if you want a street car the heavier will do you better. It however is up to you and what you want to do with the car.

Yeah, basically what he said. It's all about inertia. Inertia is the resistance of an object to a change in its state of motion. An aluminum FW has less inertia, therefore will rob less HP. Inertia works both ways, once you get the steel one up to speed, due to its higher inertia, it will tend to want to stay at speed longer. I would say if you like to go to the strip alot, keep your steel one, if you want to spend some money and free up some HP, go for the aluminum.

i have a 383 LE2 setup, just put the motor in my car, and it was the first time i went with aluminum FW. and its 100% true what red & fireturd said. with the higher HP motors i would say do it, im glad i did. You WILL have to adjust your driving style a small bit to get used to the quick revs. the largest pro of this changeover was highway driving... the gears rev match perfect when down shifting. 1 tap of the foot and boom, matched perfectly due to less rotating mass. it really is up to you, but the aluminum fw for my application really fit in well.

I like mine. RAM. It's one of the heavier ones. From a roll it revs and pulls out in front like a ****.

I had the fidanza 11.5 LB and it was awesome. From a dig they suck but from a roll they are KING.

I've used both and prefer the steel for street driving. Quite a bit cheaper too.
