Aluminum or steel crankshaft hub.

Is one preferred over the other? I figure aluminum has less rotating mass, but isn't as strong. What about a "big block" hub? I'm looking to get an ATI dampner. This is going on a street TC78 383.

Also as for the balancer material should I get aluminum or aluminum/steel.

I wouldn't worry about mass on a piece that is so close to the centerline of the crank.

They say the aluminum piece cannot be honed. Will that be a problem? I'm using a 24x ignition system and might need to shave off a little to get all the pulleys lined up with the dampner.

Should I worry about the aluminum hub not being as strong as the steel hub in regards to the keyway?

I see no reason to go with the aluminum one, I would go with the steel hub.
