Re: Alternator voltage question

Normal output is around 13.8~14.2 volts at idle..... But if battery is weak, it might be alittle higher...

If lower, check connections first, before thinking the alt is bad..

Battery is only a year 1/2 at most old........but that doesn't mean anything

the alt was removed and reinstalled when i did my plugs so im sure all the connections are good.

the car runs fine I just had free scan hooked up to i lastnight and noticed my voltage was really low, yes i have a UD pulley but 2000 should be WELL beyond full charge RPMS

So a weak battery will read higher voltage from the alt?

If working properly, yes. A weak battery isnt holding a charge as well as it should so the alt will compensate.

Re: Alternator voltage question

cool

well that rules out my battery cause im getting LOW voltage.

and unless im moving around 2000+ RPMs my gauge jiggles around a little TOO much.

my voltage regulator might be on its way.

does anyoone know of a better then stock replacement.

Re: Alternator voltage question

Are you reading the voltage with a meter or relying on the gauge? The gauge almost always reads low.

the only other way i read the voltage was on freescan when i happend to have it plugged up.

i'll get the meter out tomarrow when i have someone else around to sit in the car
