Well, figures that Autozone is out of Mobil 1 filters so I grab the next prettiest one. Are Fram's really that bad? And, yes its the one with the rubber grip.

Please don't respond with only Fram sucks. Tell me why they suck

I use to run a quick lube, and heard all the oil reps spout off about thier products. I personally choose Fram filters and Castrol Sythetic oil. They stood out the best on the actual facts sheets years ago when I read them. So I stick with what I knew then. Never had any problems

This is just one of the many sites out there that have dissected filters and compared. The findings are almost always the same: poor construction, bad flow, low quality materials, etc..

Using Fram just 1 time till your next oil change to Mobil 1 will not cause any engine damge. I guarantee it.

Well get the K&N filter then if you need a substitute. Personally the M1 filter is MY SUBSTITUTE for the K&N I normally get

12 bucks for the K&N???? You gotta be kidding me. Hell, that would mean 45 bones every 3 months. HEOOOOO NO. Think I'll try the Double Guard then.

As for Castrol Syntec.......not to pound on them but I ran that in my car after I got it back in 97. With 79k on the clock I spun 3 of my rod bearings, 2 of which were heavy. My motor was a screamer too. Bone stock out of the show room with 3500 miles on it I pulled a 14.1. I thought the motor was great. Ohhh well.

IMO, as long as you at least CHANGE your oil and filter on a regular basis, regardless of brand, you'll be just fine.

I know a guy that owns (2nd owner since I had it) a car I once owned. I sold it 4 years ago with 119k on it. It's got 270k on it now and still runs like a top, and I used nothing other than a plain old Fram filter and Q-state 10w40.

I've been using Fram and Mobile 1 for decades. Never had a problem. Something to consider is that it is not necessarily the dirt in the oil that causes issues. It's the metal shavings that cause the wear. I stick a big magnet (pulled out of a huge scsi hard drive) on the bottom of my oil filter. It will catch and hold the shavings making your oil cleaner and your filter more efficient.

i had a 98 plymouth breeze. i changed the oil religously at 3333, 6666, 9999, 13333, 16666, .... you get the idea. i was the original owner and sold it at 85000 miles. i used valvoline 10-40 and a fram double guard on every change. of course it was not a high performance engine but it saw its share of 5000 rpm. the oil came out very clean at every change. you could see through the stream as it was filling the oil pan. i agree with compstall - as long as you chage regularly it wont matter what brand you use. that being said - i use a mobil 1 and full synthetic valvoline on the lt1 every time.
