Thanks for making me feel a little better about this. Its probably gonna get changed back to a Mobil 1 filter next weekend. Autozone seems to still have them, but they were just out of stock. I don't mess around with Oil in my car. I'll pay the 11 bucks for a filter and Mobil 1 synthetic. I have 170,000 miles on the clock, I have no leaks, so why not? My oil comes out practically clear after 3 months/3,000 miles. (Usually hit the 3 month marker first)....

I've been using Fram and Mobile 1 for decades. Never had a problem. Something to consider is that it is not necessarily the dirt in the oil that causes issues. It's the metal shavings that cause the wear. I stick a big magnet (pulled out of a huge scsi hard drive) on the bottom of my oil filter. It will catch and hold the shavings making your oil cleaner and your filter more efficient.
This is an interesting idea that you have there fast95. Definitely original. But you'd be better off with that magnet in the bottom of your oil pan, instead of giving it the ability to clog your filter. But you get kudos from me for thinking of it, lol

I think Fram filters are fine. The ones i do not like are the Expensive ones such as K&N and Mobil 1. Those filters yes, flow the best. But they do not filter out the oil near good enough. There filtration rate compared to a Fram, or even factory filter is plain ridiculous. These filters do not filter out the gunk and junk that you need filtered out. And that is the reason they flow so good. Ive had a representative from a high-end oil filter company tell me that using a Mobil-1 filter or a K&N filter is about the same as taking a screen off of your window and filtering the oil through it, Now I'm sure that is some exaggeration but we all get the point!

Your biggest concern with an oil filter on an LT1 is getting one that flows very well, and the Frams simply do not flow very well at all. And when this happens, you'll get more engine wear.

So if you think you're not hurting your engine by running these filters, it's simply not true, you're slowly wearing it out faster than you would with a higher flow filter like the K&N.

If you drive your car hard, Fram is not the way to go. Sure, it might allow some people to get long life out of regular cars not driven very hard, but in a high performance application, it just doesn't cut it.

Besides, there are much better filters out there for the same price or less (such as Walmart's Supertech/STP or Wix/NAPA Gold)

Are ya'll saying using a Fram one time until the next oil change to a Mobil is bad for the engine?

Same here but on a different Z I owned. Then I actually did some research into the subject of Fram quality. I just don't see why anyone would use one considering the construction of them. Sure they work fine for some people. I might be one of them but I figure why take the chance.

I used a Fram filter...once.

I was driving to work and noticed more valvetrain noise than usual...also noticed that the oil pressure was lower than usual. After cutting the filter open, I found that the guts had collapsed and it hadn't been filtering anything at all. I think in the future I'll stay away from filters that are made of construction paper and tied together with string.

Ok no offense dude but this is the biggest pile of misunformed crap I have ever read.....

Guys....look at the FRAM filter with its cardboard end-caps and general low-quality construction. (ANOTHER )

Now take a look at the construction of STP , AC Delco, Hastings , K & N, EVERY OTHER FILTER is made properly, except Fram. All those pics were from Patman's link.

If you want to see it in person, I believe any NAPA has a little display with a NAPA Gold and a Fram oil filter cut open that you can look at.

The "flow" of an Fram vs. a K&N or a NAPA Gold is not so much the issue as the filter FALLING APART and than not filtering anything.

Guys, NAPA Gold filters are some of the best money can buy.....excellent construction, flow, and they might be a dollar more than a Fram.

Just because you've "run Fram for years and never had problems" deosnt mean the filters are any good....

[redneck] Hell ah bin sleepin wit ma cousin fer years and there aint never bin no problems wit it.... [/redneck]

Ditto that. I usually run either Wix or Pure One filters. I prefer the Wix, but they're a pain to find around here (only one store that I know of has them).

Also, I always use the "long" filter as opposed to the "correct" (short) filter. I can't remember what application the "long" filter is made for (some type of truck)...maybe someone else will know and chime in. I usually just look up the short filter in the book at the store, then dig through the long ones and compare the tops to make sure they're the same.

Wow, a sales rep from one company bad mouthing the competitors product, I can't beleive it! I'm sure he's just trying to get you to buy more of his product, I really doubt the M1/K&N is anywhere near as bad as he makes it out to be, more than likely it's an even better filter than his. I'm using the K&N and at least on the outside it looks like the best made filter I've ever seen for the LT1, and I've never heard of one failing or a problem with anyone using it, unlike filters such as Fram. I don't usually cut up new or used oil filters but I think I will when I change this one the next time to see how it's put together.

Fram filters are junk. They're the worst filter on the market. Take one apart next to a generic "Made in China" filter. The cheapo will be better quality.

I only run Wix, Delco, Napa Gold, or K&N. Spend an extra buck or two and do your engine a favor.
