Are all LT1's the same?
Re: Are all LT1's the same?
I'm sure poor WillyC could really use an answer as opposed to bickering about other engines.. I'd say just swap your rods. And while you're at it, replace your rod bearings, and examine your piston rings. But use your original camaro pistons. assuming no damage has been done.
Wait a sec...... what are you paying for this thing?
screw buying the engine, go buy some forged rods. What the hell are you going to do with half an engine once you get it togather.
Then you should probably figure you how you bent the thing. Bent rods usually mean that something bad is happening.

Re: Are all LT1's the same?
Well thanks for all the relpies they were pretty interesting!!
The engine Im looking at tha guy wants 1400$ for it. And assuming that it does run I thought it would be easier/cheper than trying to get my engine rebuilt.
I also dont know for sure what caused the rod to bend like it did. So I would be a little scared about reusing the other rods and crank. I think maybe when I overheated really bad like two months ago I may have warped either my cylinder head or my head gasket then possibly after not driving it for a while water seeped into the cylinder then caused it to hydro-lock as I cranked it over.
How much is a stroker kit with a new rotating assembly? would that ever pass smog here in california?
thanks, will

Re: Are all LT1's the same?
I know everyone wants to dog on the iron heads of the b-body motors, but the reality of it is they flow more than your 95 aluminum heads
not a huge amount but 5% seems like it should be enough to make up for the extra 35# and SMALL compression drop. That would leave your aluminum heads available for porting or sale depending on wether you want more power down the road or just want to recoup some of the costs of this repair. The irons are not worth as much if you try to sell them mostly because people as a whole are stupid and ASSume the f-body stuff has to be vastly superior. That said all out ported the aluminum heads have a little more potential and come with screwin rocker studs which are pluses over the irons, but the point is the irons are not a bad thing like most seem to believe they are.
$1400 is too much sounds like gouging based on it being from an Impala but fact of the matter is it is not different from the base engine in the wagons, Roadmasters, Fleetwood, or as discussed the optional LT1 inj the Caprice(which is all an Impala is anyway same VIN just a trim package). Save yourself some money and get a longblock from a junkyard out of one of those other cars, same thing and you will not be paying a premium for parts because they came out of an Impala.
