alarm woes
alarm woes
i got a problem with my alarm system on my 96 z28. i lock the door, and the alarm is set as normal. but then when i open the door with the key, after a few seconds the alarm starts soundin. even with the keyless entry remote, i dont even have to open the door and the alarm still starts blarin. i checked the manual, but its a 94 manual, which has different keyless entries. am i just doin somethin wrong, or do i need to replace somethin or what? thanks
If you set the alarm and then open the door with the key, the alarm should go off after a few seconds.
Are you saying that even if you set the alarm, push the "Unlock" button on the remote, then use the key to open the door, the alarm sill goes off? If so, I'd have to say your remote's "Unlock" button is not working.
I'm sorry, I guess I don't completely understand the problem......
Here you can find instructions for reprogramming the alarm to a remote.
Thomas.

If the remote unlocks the doors but the alarm still goes off when you open a door up, then your remote is operating the body module correctly (unlocking the doors), but is't disarming the alarm.
Try reprogramming the remote to the alarm and see if that fixes it.
If the alarm goes off immediately when you press the "Unlock" button on the remote, then maybe your remote is bad and the "Unlock" button is activating the "Unlock" and "Panic" buttons on the remote.
Is there a chance you hit the "Panic" button by accident?

I have the same problem. Don't have a remote (mine broke), but when I unlock the car with the key it will set the alarm off around 5 seconds later if I don't get the key in the ignition. It's really a pain in the butt. Wish I could tell you how to fix it, but I'm still trying myself. Also (not to hijack the thread), does anyone know where I can get another remote for unlocking the doors (and around how much it'll put me out)?
If the alarm system is armed and you open the door with the key without disarming the alarm first with the remote, the horn will go off after about 15 seconds unless you put the key in the ignition. That is how it is and it is normal. There is nothing you can do about this.
When you lock the car, the alarm becomes armed whether you use a remote to lock it or not. So if you dont have a remote, when you unlock the car you need to put the key in the ignition quick. Your local chevy dealer should stock new remotes.

There is a way to program the body module not to arm the alarm when you lock the doors without the remote. I can't find a link to the procedure right now, but I think you can find it in any '96+ F body owners manual.
Something like removing fuse #15 and cycling the ignition to on, off, on, off, on and then using the power door and lock controls to program the body module.
Oh, and a '96-'97 keyless entry remote is GM# 16245100-29. A dealer would be the best place to get one, although I have known people to get them off of E-bay too.
