Over the stock setup its probably at least a 5-10 hp gain. I would like to know how they waterproof those things though

You are talking about a scoop under the car for a CAI, right?
5-10 hp? Probably not. A few hp at higher speeds, maybe.
I have never had any problems related to water but I made a block off plate that I put on in the winter and remove in the spring.
Pics in my sig.

my friend's friend had like a mitsubishi lancer or something, and put a cold air intake on it, and it sucked up some water and broke the entire engine, it broke a rod or somethin like that (and he got it fixed under warrenty lucky bastard)

I dont see how water would break the motor unless someone threw a bucket down it. I used to do this and I learned it from a few people. Actually put a lil water in the carb while gunnin the engine to clear out carbon build up. Don't know if it actually worked but I can tell you it never hurt. My dad still has his 79 pickup with the same motor and 220K miles on it. So I dont think that intake could suck up enough water to hurt it. For petes sake when I raced dirt bikes I used to submerge my trail bike without problems. Just make sure the filter is preoiled well.

As for the HP gain......I'd like to know myself.

Where do you get them from anyway?????

thats a hard question to answer.... size of the scoop, speed of movin air into the scoop... Air being utilized by the engine... type of air intake (cold air? OEM?)... how well sealed is the air forced into the Airbox is... etc etc

one thing is fer sure... if you can push more air in the scoop than the air thats being utilized then there will be some aditional horsepower made.... just by helping to pump more air into the cylinders but then again... if your car is using 300 cubic feet of air per second... can you pump say 500??? and if you do... it wont all go in, it just gunna create a pressure differential and help the car inhale more air..

How much?? is really hard to tell.

It is hard to tell.
I have a dryer duct ram air scoop that I made myself just to get some more air directed to the filter.
I think it helps but I take alot of crap for having that dryer duct hangin down there.

someone should take their car to the track without it then install one to see if it actually helps.

I just might do that after I put my motor in and break it in. That will take a couple of months probably.

Hey MENTOCASE.........where you from?
