AIR and EGR delete?

Im sure this has been covered before but here goes. Feel free to link to other threads. How hard is it to do? I know that there arent any performance gains involved but im looking for some LT headers and its hard to find ones with emissions. Any writeups out there on how to delete it? Thanks

Pacesetter,Jet-Hot, and Kooks all make LT1 long tubes and they offer them with AIR/EGR fittings.

It's not hard to do, most do it just to clean up the engine bay. Get some block off plates and some vacuum caps and go to work.

I've seen some sellers on there even selling chrome ones with bowtie emblems, I thought that was pretty amusing seeing that you can't really get a good view of these things.

What you need to do, and what you will get in the way of codes depends on the year of your car. Why not add a "signature" showing the basic info about your car - year, model, engine, tranny and any major mods.

What year is the car? If it is OBD-I, as long as the fuse for the AIR circuit is intact, you shouldn't get an SES light. As for the EGR, it is a hit or miss, but still a possibility that you won't get an SES light for its absence. OBD-II, however, you will surely need tuning to take care of the absence of both the AIR and EGR systems.

shbox.com has the info, look there. It's pretty straightforward, kinda a pain since you'll be working at the rear of the intake manifold to get to the egr system...

It has no affect on performance, whether you leave it there or delete it. Maybe a few # less weight, and a bit more space under the hood.... but that's it.

To remove EGR, remove all the parts shown here, and plug up all the resulting holes:

AIR is a bit more complicated, since what parts you have to delete will depend on whether you had the AIR system recall (95-97) done. The holes in the manifold require an M22 thread oil plug (93-95 except CA emissions A4's). 95 CA emisions A4 and 96/97 require a smaller plug, possibly an M18 (but not sure). The hole in the air duct that the AIR pump suction hose connects to will require a 3/4" vacuum cap.
