The thing that gets me about them.is they make a few fast cars that run basicly exibition and everybody creams themselves over them. I would rather take my buisiness to a known racer with a long history of winning and building than one that put together his car and doesnt compete on a regular basis against other big dogs.

Well guys there are quite a few excellent engine builders in the Toronto Southern Ontario area. For all out Pro racing engines ie. Pro Mod and Top fuel we have Al Billis and Acheson. Al is a long time Pro Mod racer and Champion in IHRA ( He won last month in Gainsville). Acheson I think was the IHRA Top fuel champion last year. Both are excelent but very pricey but they do some of the best work around anywhere.

On the Sportsman level ( the one I recommend when looking for a good builder) I really have to say that in order to get a good Canadian builder one has to borrow from the Ford ranks. Paul DaSilva from (PSP) is a former Pro 5.0 champion and and excellent engine builder. He and his brother (the 2000 Pro 5.0 champion) Joe Da Silva have won almost everywhere then have raced at one time or another. Paul builds the motors himself and is a super guy. He has had thousands of customers and I have never heard a bad thing about him except that as usual he is expensive(although cheaper then ARE). The Second person I recommend is John Vantresca. He also raced in Pro 5.0 for many years using his own engines. I use him to freshen my motors and he has always treated me fair and never left me out to dry. He has won alot as well and you can check out his shop at Protechperformance.com. Both Paul and John build excellent chevy engines although their websites are mostly Ford in nature. Just some Food for research.

If I was going to get my car stroked and some head work done I should give one of these ford guys a shot with an LT1
I just wish everyone would say A.R.E is good and I could get the work done there

Hey there,

These Ford guys are very very good at what they do. Before ARE was in F-body's they did Ford work and were unable to compete. So they became an F-body shop. Both John and Paul are excellent builders who make great power and have great service and reputations. Give John a call and talk to him. If you like what you hear check out his shop and his other cars that he has running around and racing. Speak to his customers and get lots of feedback. Do the same with Paul. I think you will be impressed. If not then keep looking until you find the fit that is right for you. FYI: John has street driven 302 Mustang that runs in my class: OSCA true street(and yes the thing is street driven) that runs 10.60's on the motor and 9.0 @ 150mph on spray. Paul has similar stuff out there. I think that is flying for a 302 mustang at 2900lbs. JMHO.

Interesting how ARE couldn't cut it in the Ford ranks. Doesn't surprise me for many reasons. The first is pretty obvious....

The others are the Ford guys do a great job considering they give up so many cubic inches. There really are some real BA small block Fords out there.

Just wanted to hear if anyone is getting any corrective actions done by ARE in a timely manner?
I approached Nick with my engine audit (of which is quite bad in terms of engine machining tolerances and parts missing that I paid for) and he told me I had a case and that he would send funds to fix some issues and also replacement parts for others. At least that was 2 weeks ago. He is since dodging the issues and changing his story. And is extremely hard to get a hold of. Funny how things change once the heat is off ARE.
Anyone else have some experiences to share?

Nick is a professional con artist. He will tell ya anything ya want to hear. Get used to it.

As I have said on repeated occasions........ He belongs in jail. Nick is totally dishonest and will stoop to any low level to make a dollar.

Nick thrives because for everyone of us who knows he's a ripoff artist, there are five new potential victums to replace us. That's why new people pop up all the time with ARE horror stories.

It guys like him whom screw it up for those of use whom are only trying to enjoy our hobbies. Instead it turns into these horror stories.

Could you share with us what you discovered after dissassembling your motor? Paying for quality parts and getting something cheaper is just wrong and dishonest. What kind of motor did you have them build you and what kind of power did it make?

Thanks

I'm not speaking for Crazyboy, but the motor I got from ARE contained a bunch of used parts just thrown together. He didn't even bother to turn the used crank or rebalance it.

The red flag was very poor oil pressure and vibration @ rpm from day one. Of course, he offered to check the clearances and rebalance the motor if I would pull it and send it back to Canada from Texas. Hey….. nothing to that is there?

At 15k miles (What can I say… I was pretty depressed and it took me a while to gut up and admit I got ripped off AGAIN by ARE) the motor looked like it had 150k miles on it.

Nothing on the build sheet was to specification and the parts were beat up (never raced and only dynoed twice). In other words...... He just copied someone else’s build sheet and put my name on it so I'd think it was a real blueprinted motor. He also sold a block I traded him as new to someone else also. A real class act.

So Crazyboy…… How many used parts did he rip you off for selling them for new?
