but the bushing factor.
Bearing>Bushing.
That is one place i don't want there to be wear and slop as thats going to cause a lot of issues.

True...
man I dunno...I gotta buy a new opti very soon I need to make up my mind.

$199 sounds very appealing for something that *might* hold up than a factory one. The only hold up is that darn bearing>bushing issue

It would be sweet if you could just take the opti apart and put a bearing in it instead of the bushing. You need to get that thing together soon.

It'll be on the road soon...not to worry ...just need a few more parts...like an opti and a few other odds and ends

Starting out it spins better and feels "tighter". I know that will change over time, but it seems like a better place to start from.

Re: Accel Opti Arrived! Pics inside.

In addition to the bearing/bushing change in design, I'm curious to know if they addressed the notorious "exploding rotor" issue as well. I've never heard of an opti failing from being spun high RPM's because a bearing went out: it always seems to be the rotor.

Here's what I'm thinking about the use of a bushing though: maybe they determined that the rotating mass of an optical wheel wasn't high enough to cause excessive wear on a bushing? The fact that they decided to change this part at all is an indication that they must've at least did some testing. Perhaps this is an area where GM used an "overkill" part? (Not that this would be a unique situation with an LT1. Look at how much hp a stock bottom end can handle...)

I just have a hard time imagining that an aftermarket company would invest the time and money to do R&D on a product and end up building something that performed worse than an OEM part. Just doesn't seem logical on several levels. I guess time will tell.

...
I think the exploding rotor deal is related to the bearing wearing. Prolly get just enough wobble to allow the rotor to contact a pin, and then all hell breaks loose. It really sucks when it happens to a low mileage GM opti.

So can the same thing happen with bushing?

You would think it would be even worse with a bushing.

Re: Accel Opti Arrived! Pics inside.

Part of the high RPM issue was the way the stock rotor was held down and the fact that the rotor was brittle.

I forgot to mention above also, that the accel opti has a nice rotor. It is a very sturdy plastic piece, reminds me of the stuff MSD uses in their caps/rotors (rynite). We pulled the rotor out of this opti just in case b/c the car is a DELTEQ setup which is how i know how its made.

104K on the stock opti? IF it ain't broke, don't fix it. IOW, get another stocker and rock. No need to be Accel's guinea pig.

Re: Accel Opti Arrived! Pics inside.

I just placed an order for one of these last night... Looks like a quality unit, and Accell has never let me down in the past..

I wouldnt have sprung for an MSD unit, but chances are they wont be out for another few months.. They have been delaying the release of these for quite some time, and with all the failures that the stockers go through that I have seen personally (i know there are a lot out there that run fine) I figured why the F not get something different that may be "improved"

I guess we will see when the time comes.

I got the MSD one about a week ago--- VERY NICE PIECE.
If ya going to turn it ya don't want to be on the side of the road/Interstate with the opti exploded inside-- It makes 'um hard to crank.
