a4 dissassembly question

In disassembling my transmission, I have found that the 1-2 accumulator's piston was turned upside down from my factory unit repair diagram with 2 springs stuck inside the accumulator assembly.

Was this some kind of shift kit, or did some jacka$$ screw up the assembly process. Inside the accumulator assembly, the top area is slightly chewed up from the larger of the two springs. The spring colors are green for the larger diameter one and white for the smaller/stiffer spring. I am figuring that this was done wrong because I have seen no pictures of such a setup, but I have never worked with a shift kit before. Am I right?

Here is the link to the transgo instructions.

This is how it should go according to my ATSG manual.

Ken,

Thanks alot for the pics. http://ken.lowrance.com/images/Transgo/1-2Accum.jpg is what the factory manual shows also. When I disassembled mine, the piston was flipped and two springs were on the opposite side of where they should have been, but the reference was correct relative to the piston. I sure wonder whether this is what led to my forward clutch or something going out. Damn *******!
